The Tandem Pub & Grill (Oxford, England)

Appletiser ("gently" sparkling apple juice) and Guiness
The neighborhood pub is called The Tandem, subtitled Hungry Horse, which we think is a local restaurant chain. On Wednesdays, they have curry + a pint for only £4.99.
Burger and chips

El Mirasol Del Puerto (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

A longtime favorite that was recommended to us by guidebooks and local Argentines alike, this waterfront branch of the famous El Mirasol lives up to its top billing.  The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare, and service was excellent.

Malbec; carne, pollo, and corn & onion empanadas; Argentine ribeye

El Gran Cafe Tortoni (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

We stopped for coffee at Argentina’s oldest and most famous café, dating back to 1858.  Home to Buenos Aires’ Academia Nacional del Tango, everything about this place connotes bohemian grandeur, from its brass-handled doors and oak-panelled walls to its green marble tables and stained glass ceilings.  A group of schoolchildren in pinafores stopped by to have tea in one of its salons while we were there.

Argentine pomelo soda; churro

Olsen (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

This Nordic restaurant/bar serves over 40 different kinds of vodka, and has a great outdoor garden with ivy-covered walls.

Mark and Ranyee's Wedding (Ashland, MA)

La Baita (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

This Frommers and NYTimes-recommended Italian restaurant in Palermo was hit and miss.  Some homemade pastas were excellent while others fell flat.  Stick with the basics and you'll have a great meal, especially with the extensive (and inexpensive) wine list.

Appetizer platter; special pasta with pork sausage; tortelli with salmon and cream sauce

Peter's Hot Dog (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

We came across this fast food joint while browsing the street markets in Palermo Soho.  With more than a dozen toppings ranging from jalapeno to various cheeses, we couldn't resist sharing a hot dog.  With the help of a friendly woman who was able to translate for us, we ordered a hot dog with parmesan and olive oil/parsley, topped with crisp fries.  Yum!

Mozzarella Bar (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

Freddo (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

This famous Argentine ice-cream chain serves more than a half-dozen types of Dulce de Leche ice-creams, as well as fruit sorbets.  One of the options is trifreddo -- three kinds of ice-cream and three kinds of toppings.

Park Tower (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

Breakfast buffet at our hotel was so awesome we skipped lunch.
