El Gran Cafe Tortoni (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

We stopped for coffee at Argentina’s oldest and most famous café, dating back to 1858.  Home to Buenos Aires’ Academia Nacional del Tango, everything about this place connotes bohemian grandeur, from its brass-handled doors and oak-panelled walls to its green marble tables and stained glass ceilings.  A group of schoolchildren in pinafores stopped by to have tea in one of its salons while we were there.

Argentine pomelo soda; churro
